About
Writer of Canadian Fantasy
I guess you could say there was no way to escape my destiny as a Canadian writer. Born in Northern Manitoba to a conservation officer and a teacher, an appreciation for the great outdoors and a love of reading was instilled in me from the very beginning. We moved around the province frequently and traveled often, fueling my passion for getting lost in the geography and history of a new place.
My writing has always centered on the exploration of worlds: both outside and inside of ourselves. I like to tell stories with depth, magic, dark humour, intrigue, and spirit. Where the land, the people, the history and the culture all shape the narrative.
I am currently enrolled at the University of Winnipeg, with a focus on literature and Indigenous studies. My goal is to highlight the enduring spirit of Canadian and Indigenous people, and the ways our colonial past and present have marked us. I describe my style as Canadian fantasy: a genre influenced by traditional fantasy but with a hint of maple syrup. Just picture a coureur-de-bois fighting off a bear with an axe and his ceinture flechée, instead of a knight battling a dragon with a sword and shield.
I might be joking, But you’ll have to read more to find out…

Gabrielle drew another arrow, fired it off, th [...]
Long Lost
The community of Shamattawa is nestled along the banks of God's River some 745 kilometers northeast of Winnipeg, Manitoba. The ride was much shorter out of Gillam, the small hydro town where my wildland fire fighting crew was being stationed at the time of the fire call. We had heard terrible rumours about “Sham-town” and had hoped to never work near there. There's no road access to Shamattawa dur [...]
